  • Lifetime plans now get support messages and beta grants too. A safeguard meant only to protect lifetime accounts from ever being locked out accidentally also stopped them from checking in for updates at all — which meant the in-app support messages and instant beta-access grants introduced in 2.8.3 never reached them. Fixed in both places this could happen, including a narrower case where upgrading from a trial to a lifetime plan right around the trial's expiry could miss the same check-in. Lifetime accounts now check in normally and receive these the same as every other plan.

  • Beta access now applies instantly. When you're granted beta access, it's active on your account the moment Artemis checks in next — no key to copy, paste, or lose track of.

  • Downloads are now digitally signed. Setup.exe and Artemis.exe are now signed with a verified Microsoft-backed certificate, closing the false-positive Defender/SmartScreen blocks some of you hit trying to download or run Artemis. Every build from here forward carries a real, verifiable signature instead of shipping unsigned.
  • Extra protection for paying accounts. A safety check now makes sure a paid subscription (monthly, quarterly, annual, or lifetime) can't be silently downgraded, revoked, or have its expiration date moved up — that kind of change now requires an explicit, logged override on our end. This doesn't change anything about how you use Artemis; it's a backend safeguard for your account.
  • Artemis can now recover from a bad update on its own. If an update ever fails to start correctly several times in a row, Artemis automatically reverts itself to the last version that was working instead of getting stuck. This is fully automatic — most people will never see it happen.
  • Smaller installer. The Discord bot component (AuditBot) is no longer bundled into every install — it now downloads automatically the first time you turn it on in Settings → Discord Bot. Setup.exe is meaningfully smaller as a result, and update downloads for everyone are lighter too.
  • Heads-up before your plan expires. If you're on a paid plan, you'll now get an advance notice 7 days and again 3 days before it expires — a renewal reminder if you're set to auto-renew, or a "renew now" nudge if you're not — so you don't get caught off guard.
  • Additional backend security hardening. Release manifests are now cryptographically signed, password-reset requests are protected against automated abuse, and license-server activity is monitored for suspicious patterns. These are administrative/security changes and require no action on your part.

Fixed

  • Light theme, fixed for real. A pass through the Light theme fixed several spots that stayed dark regardless of your theme choice — dropdown menus, the active nav item, hover states, and the floating layout's panels — plus gave the ARTEMIS logo in the top bar a fixed brand gradient that reads clearly in every theme.
  • Network Diagnostics actually shows your network activity. The Network tab in Diagnostics could get stuck showing "Unknown" and "0 requests captured" even in an active session — the service that tracks it only started once you'd already opened the tab once, one launch too late. It now starts with the app, so DNS and connection timing show up from your very first visit to the tab.
  • Fewer surprise sign-outs. A background reliability pass found and fixed three related bugs that could sign you out of a perfectly good session — a temporary hiccup (rate-limit, timeout, server error) was being treated the same as an actually-expired login and logging you out, and a slow background session-check could occasionally overwrite a newer, already-successful sign-in. Session restores now only sign you out when the session is genuinely dead.
  • Clearer errors when instance detection or invites fail. If Artemis couldn't detect your current VRChat instance, or an invite silently failed, past versions often logged nothing useful at all — support tickets came in with an empty diagnostics report even though something was clearly wrong. Both paths now record the actual reason (VRChat not running, no world joined yet, session expired, rate-limited, and more), so what went wrong is visible instead of a blank screen.
  • More reliable real-time event tracking. Fixed a timing bug in the service that watches VRChat's live log for join/leave and instance events, where a background check and a direct check could race each other and silently miss recording progress — most noticeable as an occasional missed event after a restart. Event tracking is now safe under concurrent access and always saves its place when Artemis closes.

Release notes

  • Fully customizable themes. Settings → Appearance now has a Custom Theme tab: pick your own background, card, text, and two accent colors with free-form color pickers, or upload your own background image, and watch the whole app update live as you adjust them. Five new built-in presets — Midnight, Cyber, Glass, Sunset, and Pro — join Dark and Light, so there's a real look for you even if you never touch a color picker. This also fixes a long-standing bug where the Theme, Primary Color, and Secondary Color settings didn't actually do anything — they were silently failing to apply.
  • Custom background images now actually show up. Uploading a background image for your Custom Theme used to look fine in the small preview thumbnail but often just wouldn't appear once applied — the image was being pushed through an internal channel that silently dropped large files. Backgrounds are now served directly to the app the same way any other in-app asset is, so what you pick is what you get, every time.

  • Stuck trial group? Support can now clear it remotely. If your free trial ever locked onto the wrong group, our team can now release that lock from our end by your Artemis ID — no reinstall, no new key, and nothing for you to do. It takes effect automatically the next time Artemis checks in or you sign in.
  • Anti-nuke snapshot capture no longer fails on servers with active threads (Full Moon). If your Discord server had an active thread channel, the anti-nuke guard's startup snapshot of roles and channels could fail completely and silently save nothing — meaning /antinuke-restore would have had nothing to restore from. Snapshots and the quarantine role's channel permissions now complete normally regardless of threads.

  • Diagnostics Center. A new Diagnostics item under System gives you a direct look at what Artemis is doing, without needing an outside console. It's five focused tabs: a VRChat API console showing live traffic as you use the app, Performance Timings covering startup speed, CPU/RAM, memory and garbage collection, and thread activity, an Environment tab with your machine, OS, and build details, a License tab showing your plan, expiry, and offline grace with an on-demand "check now" against the licensing server, and a Network tab tracking DNS/connection timing and recent request history. There's also an Error Log tab that surfaces recent warnings and failures with suggested fixes, and an Export tab that bundles everything into one copy-or-save report for support — automatically stripped of tokens, cookies, passwords, and license keys before it's built. Available to every signed-in user on any plan, including the free trial.
  • Friends has grown a lot since it first shipped. The Friends tab now has a full redesign: a two-pane, Discord-style layout with your friends list on one side and a chat or profile view on the other. Friends are grouped into Favorites, Online, and Offline, you can search or add someone by their Artemis ID, and each friend shows their live status and how long you've been connected. Your own profile now has a small dashboard where you can set a display name and a short bio, and pick from 7 color themes for the whole Friends screen.
  • Message your friends directly. You can now send direct messages to people on your friends list right from the Friends tab — open a friend's chat pane, type, and send. Messages are grouped by day with timestamps, and you can block or unblock someone straight from the conversation. Direct Messages is a separate on/off switch from Friends itself, so turning Friends on doesn't automatically turn on messaging.
  • Presence: see who's online. Friends now shows a live online/offline indicator for each friend, refreshed automatically, so you can tell at a glance who's around.
  • Group IDs that stop working now fix themselves. If a group's ID was ever saved as its shareable short code or link instead of its real ID, every audit-log and moderation feature for that group could quietly stop working for good. Artemis now checks and repairs this automatically every time it loads your settings, so a group that broke before this fix heals itself the next time you open Artemis.
  • Audit logs now pull from the right account. If a group was managed by one of your secondary linked VRChat accounts rather than your primary one, pulling that group's audit log could fail with a permissions error even though the account genuinely has access. Audit log requests now use the correct account for each group.
  • Auto-invite stays on for groups you were already running. An earlier safeguard that gates automated invites per group could silently turn itself off for groups you were already actively auto-inviting through, cancelling their queued invites with no warning — this is what some of you saw reported as "the inviting engine isn't working." Any group with a prior history of real automated invites is now automatically grandfathered in and keeps working exactly as before.
  • Anti-nuke safety improvements (Full Moon). The anti-nuke guard now starts in observation mode by default, so you can watch how it would react before it's allowed to actually act. The emergency /panic and /antinuke-restore commands are now restricted to the same dedicated trusted-admin list as the rest of anti-nuke, rather than the general moderator list.
  • More reliable Discord bot setup. Pasting a group's shareable short code or share link — instead of its full grp_… ID — into the Discord bot's group field used to save silently and quietly break every group feature the bot relies on, including audit posts and slash commands, with no warning shown. Artemis now checks the ID before saving and tells you right away if it isn't valid.
  • Account status changes apply faster. When your account status changes — for example after a support action, a plan change, or a billing update — Artemis now checks in sooner instead of waiting for its next scheduled check, so the change takes effect faster. This is an administrative/security improvement and requires no action on your part.
  • Security update. A dependency used for local data storage has been updated to close a known vulnerability. This is an internal, administrative change and requires no action on your part.

  • The Sign out button works again. Signing out of your Artemis account — from the top bar or the My accounts screen — could do nothing at all: the confirmation prompt was drawn behind the main window, so the click appeared dead. Sign out now confirms right inside the app and cleanly clears your session, so the next launch returns to the login screen.

  • Create your Artemis account without losing access. If you've been running Artemis on a beta key, you can now make a proper Artemis account right inside the app — open Settings → Account and use "Create an Artemis account." Your current access carries straight over: the new account is matched to the plan your key already unlocks, so nothing locks up. From then on you sign in with your email and password, and your account follows you across your devices.
  • "Keep me signed in" on the sign-in screen. The login window now has a Keep me signed in checkbox. Leave it on (the default) and Artemis remembers you between launches, just like before. Turn it off and Artemis signs you out when you close it, so the next launch asks for your password again — handy on a shared PC.
  • Smoother Discord-bot sign-in. The audit bot's login now handles emails and passwords that contain special characters correctly, and the login screen got a cleaner look.

  • Pick your trial group. On the free trial you manage one group — and now you choose which one. If you run more than one group, Artemis asks you once which group you'd like to work in for your trial, then locks it in so the rest of your tools — audit log, members, moderation — all point at the group you picked. Your other groups still show in the switcher marked "Upgrade to manage." The choice stays put for the length of your trial; upgrade to Full Moon any time to unlock and manage them all at once.
  • Your groups and settings can't be wiped by a bad save anymore. If Artemis was interrupted while saving — a crash, a power loss, or a half-written settings file — it could come back with your configured groups and preferences blank, as if you'd never set them up. Settings are now written safely: every save is atomic and keeps a backup, and if the settings file is ever unreadable Artemis recovers from the backup instead of starting fresh. Your groups and preferences now survive crashes and unexpected shutdowns.

  • Your other groups no longer disappear. If you manage more than one group on the Crescent or Half Moon plan, Artemis used to show only one of them and quietly hide the rest — which made it look like your groups had vanished or that adding them was broken. Now the group switcher lists every group you manage: the one you're working in stays active, and the others sit right below it under "Upgrade to manage," with a "+ more groups" button in the top bar. You can always see your full set at a glance. Managing more than one group at the same time is a Full Moon feature — upgrade and they all unlock instantly.

  • Accurate infraction counts. Kicking, banning, or warning a member from the Members list, a user's profile, or the ban screens was recording each action twice — so a member's infraction history, and the kick/ban/warn totals shown in the moderation dialog and Discord notices, could read about double the real number. Every action is now logged exactly once, with the correct display name and — for bans — the actual duration and appeal option you selected (these were previously always saved as a permanent ban). A failed kick or ban no longer leaves behind a phantom infraction either. Counts from here forward are exact; entries logged twice by earlier versions are left as they are.

  • Redesigned Join Requests. The Join Requests screen has been rebuilt as a proper moderation console. Each request now shows the person's trust rank, account age, 18+ status, and available moderation context. Approve, Deny, or Ban any request right from its row, or select several and act in bulk, and filter the queue by 18+, flagged, or brand-new accounts. The 18+ auto-accept monitor sits at the top with a live status.
  • Redesigned Send Invites. The whole invite hub — My Lobby, My Friends, Activity, Club Crawler, and the invite database — has a cleaner, faster layout: trust-ringed avatars, clearer filters, a live send-queue progress bar, and crisp icons throughout. Every control works exactly as before.
  • Redesigned Members. The Members screen opens with at-a-glance stats — total, online, 18+ verified, and flagged — above a sortable, filterable roster. Each row shows the member's trust rank, roles, and how long ago they joined; selecting one slides out a detail panel with their roles, watchlist flag and notes, moderation actions, and full infraction history. Filter by trust rank, 18+, flagged, or role.
  • See who crashed you. The Live Instances tab now remembers the roster of the instance you are in. If a crasher drops you, reopening Artemis shows a "Last instance" panel listing everyone who was present — and highlights whoever joined in the final seconds before your game went silent, the most likely culprit — so you can open their VRChat profile in one click to report or ban.

  • Moderation overlay (Full Moon). A new always-on-top desktop window shows a live roster of everyone in your guarded instance — including people hiding behind invisible avatars, because it reads VRChat's own session data rather than whatever each avatar chooses to show in-world. Each person shows their trust rank, account age, 18+ status, prior kicks/bans in your group, community-blocklist matches, time in the instance, and a risk score, with one-click Kick and Ban. Open or close it from anywhere with Ctrl+Alt+O; Ctrl+Alt+M toggles click-through so it floats over VRChat.
  • Auto-lock onto your group's instances. Choose a group once and the guard activates automatically in any of that group's live instances and follows the bot between them — no pinning required. It loudly flags Visitor-rank and other low-trust joiners (and can ping a Discord channel), but it is strictly alert-only: it never kicks or bans on its own. Every removal is a deliberate click you make.
  • Inline staff flags. Mark anyone Alt, Watch, or VIP straight from the overlay; the flag is saved to your group notes and immediately factors into that person's risk score.
  • Live instances, even with VRChat closed. A new "Live instances" panel lists your group's active instances and headcounts from the API alone — no game client required — with an optional Discord feed when instances open and close. "Auto-park" can keep the bot in the busiest instance automatically so the overlay always has a roster to show.
  • Discord join/leave log. The guarded instance can post every join and leave to a Discord channel, giving you a durable record for after-the-fact review.

  • Moderators, not just owners, can now pick their group. If you hold an owner- or admin-level role in a group you don't own, that group was being left out of the group switcher because VRChat doesn't report those permissions the usual way. Artemis now reads your effective permissions from the group itself, so the groups you actually moderate show up in the dropdown.
  • Add a group even when you have none. The top bar used to show a dead "No group" label if Artemis hadn't found any groups for you. It now gives you a box to add a group by its ID (grp_…) plus a Discover button to re-scan — so an empty workspace is never a dead end.

  • Friends. Connect with other Artemis users right inside the app. Open the new Friends tab (under Social) — it's on by default — to find your friend code at the top: tap Copy to share it, then add others by their Artemis ID. Friend requests and your friends list update live. Your friend data stays private — you only ever see your own friends and requests, never anyone else's. Not for you? Turn Friends off any time under Settings → Appearance & app → Social.

  • Stay signed in. This update fixes an issue where Artemis could prompt you to sign in again on every launch, even with your account remembered.   • Subscription email notifications. Artemis now emails you a confirmation when your subscription becomes active, when it is cancelled, and when a refund is issued, so you always have a written record of your billing activity. These messages are sent from a verified Artemis email domain, and replies reach the Artemis team directly.
  • Subscription safeguards. Billing handling has been strengthened throughout: refunds and chargebacks are reconciled automatically, a voluntary cancellation keeps your access through the period you have already paid for, and automatic-renewal status is tracked accurately. These changes are administrative and require no action on your part.
  • Version integrity. Artemis now keeps you on a current, supported version and will not silently revert to an older build; a clock-tampering safeguard additionally protects entitlement and trial timing. These changes are internal and require no action.

  • Linked VRChat accounts. The VRChat accounts you sign into Artemis are now associated with your Artemis account, so the link follows your account across devices instead of living only on one computer. Only each VRChat account's public user ID and display name are stored on our servers — never your VRChat password or login cookies, which remain encrypted on your own device. You can review and remove linked accounts at any time from the Profile screen.
  • Account roles. Eligible accounts now display a role badge, such as Developer, on the Profile screen.

Release notes

  • Cloud accounts. Access is now governed by a signed-in account rather than a manually entered license key. Sign in with an email address and password; your subscription entitlement is associated with that account. Manual entry of license keys is no longer required.
  • Plans and in-app purchasing. A Plans screen has been added. Select a plan within the application and complete payment through PayPal, a third-party payment provider, in your web browser. Your entitlement activates automatically upon PayPal's confirmation of the transaction. Payment card details are handled by PayPal and are not entered into or stored by Artemis. Available offerings are a one-time "Founder" lifetime entitlement and three subscription tiers (Crescent, Half Moon, and Full Moon).
  • Automatic renewal of subscriptions. The Crescent, Half Moon, and Full Moon subscription tiers are recurring and renew automatically until cancelled; billing and renewal are administered by PayPal. The "Founder" entitlement is a single, one-time purchase and does not renew. The complete terms governing pricing, billing, renewal, and cancellation are set out in the Terms of Service.
  • Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. A Terms of Service and a Privacy Policy are now published and accessible from within the application.   • Cross-account group management. Groups owned by different signed-in accounts can now be discovered and switched between, and the group selector organizes entries by the account that owns each group.
  • Safety. An 18+ auto-accept monitor is now surfaced on the Join Requests screen.
  • Stability and correctness. This release incorporates an extensive correctness and concurrency audit, comprising approximately fifty fixes across roster handling, API rate-limit and HTTP 429 handling, the calendar and events subsystem, and the bans and moderation path.
  • License activation integrity. Activation has been hardened to be device-bound and single-use. This change is largely internal and requires no user action.

  • Bans (Safety) — the Bans tab is now a full moderation console. The name/ID filter actually filters now, plus Group/Instance and member/non-member chips, sort by newest/oldest/name/type, and an at-a-glance stat strip (total, group vs instance, were-members vs non-members, banned in the last 7 days).
  • Temporary-ban expiry badges — permanent bans are labelled, and timed bans show how long is left (turning red when they're about to lift).
  • Unban now asks first and is logged — a confirm dialog with an optional reason (Appeal accepted / Mistake / Requested), and every unban is written to your moderation log instead of happening silently. A new “Ban a user” button jumps straight to Find a User.
  • Automatic updates — Artemis keeps itself up to date: new versions download and install in the background, so you're always on the latest without reinstalling. (One-time: install the new Setup once; everything after is automatic.)
